County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest integrated care providers in England, serving a population of around 600,000 people. We are a high performing organisation with a track record of success.
We have been listed in the CHKS 40 top hospitals for the last five years, and were named as one of Dr Foster's Trusts of the Year in 2009.
The Trust has been an integrated acute and community services provider since 2011 and now has a workforce of over 8,000.
We provide acute hospital services at two sites:
Core services at each of these sites include Accident & Emergency; acute medicine; crictical care; emergency and planned surgery; orthopaedics; women and children's services and a full range of support, diagnostic services and outpatients.
Bishop Auckland General Hospital provides local hospital services for its community, and planned care in a range of specialities for the population of County Durham and Darlington.
We provide community services from six community hospitals including Shotley Bridge and Chester-le-Street and 80 other community based locations, as well as providing care in patients' homes.
We were authorised as a Foundation Trust on 1 February 2007, under Section 6 of the Health and Social Care (Community Health and Standards) Act 2003.
As a Foundation Trust, the Board of Directors is accountable to the Council of Governors. Local people can become members of the Foundation Trust and can vote in elections to the Council of Governors. Currently, we have over 6000 public members and 6000 staff members who have joined the Trust and who, through our Council of Governors, have a direct influence on service delivery.
