The finance department exists to ensure that the trust uses its income to derive the best overall benefit to patients in terms of quality of services and patient experience. Primary Care Trusts provide the majority of the trusts £340m of income, and they determine the services we should provide through the contract they hold with us.

Financial management plays a critical role in ensuring taxpayers' money is properly managed and controlled. Financial services ensures that the routine financial transactions associated with such a large and complex organisation are performed efficiently and effectively. Together we ensure that the financial transactions of the trust are fully accounted for, and after being externally audited are available for public scrutiny.

We pay over 95,000 invoices per year on behalf of the trust with a total value of £162m and currently pay these in an average of 31 days.
           
We raise and follow up 5000 Debtors invoices per year, recovering a total of £312m income for the Trust.

We manage 175 individual Charitable funds with a total value of £2.5m which provide support to the Trust and its Patients.
