Patient Information - Silicone Gel Breast Implants
Please note we only have information relating to our NHS patients who had their surgery at one of our hospitals in County Durham or Darlington. The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has advised that there is no clear evidence to suggest that the Poly Implant Prosthesis (PIP) – Silicone /Cohesive gel implants are unsafe or that there is any health risk associated with the implants. However, it has been identified that the implants do contain a different silicone gel to that which had been approved by the regulators. Therefore, we understand that this could be a worrying time for some of our patients. If you do have PiP silicone gel implants you should have received a letter from us with further information. If you have received a letter from us and know that you have PiP implants and you have any concerns, then you should contact your GP in the first instance and arrange for assessment. The Trust has also set up an advice line: 0800 7835774.
