Bowel Screening

Colorectal ServiceThe Bowel Screening Service is provided by a team of accredied screening colonscopists supported by specialist nursing staff. 

Dr John Silcock - Consultant Gastroenterologist and Screening Centre Clinical Director, Dr Adil Ahmed, Consultant Gastroenterologyst and Clare Westwood, Consultant Nurse Endoscopist.

The Bowel Screening team is also supported by Gillian Matthews and Peter McCourt, Specialist Screening Practitioners/Nurse Endoscopist.

The service was established to provide bowel screening for the local population aged between 60 and 69 years but in 2010 we extended the age range to include residents aged between 70-75 years of age.

 

Clinics

The service is provided from the Trust's Accredited Bowel Screening Centre at Bishop Auckland Hospital and received full JAG Accreditation for this service in 2007.

There are satellite nurse assessment clinics at Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge and Darlington.
