Patient & Visitor Car Parking

Car Parking symbolGeneral Parking Information for Patients & Visitors

Each of our five hospital sites has its own car park. While we endeavour to provide the appropriate car parking for our patients, visitors and users, spaces are limited and at peak times, such as ward visiting times, they can get busy and congested.

We encourage you to use public transport or alternative means of travelling if possible. You can plan your journey to hospital on the travel line website.

We operate 'pay on foot' systems in our hospital car parks, so please remember to bring some change for the car park ticket machines. Check the car park charges.

At Darlington Memorial Hospital and Bishop Auckland Hospital you need to pay before you go into hospital using the pay machines located in the car parks.

At Univeristy Hospital of North Durham please follow the signs for the public parking area accessed via a barrier. You will be given a ticket which you then need to validate on your exit from hospital using the payment machines by the hospital entrance. To leave you will need to insert your ticket at the exit barrier.

At Chester-le-Street Community Hospital you will be issued with a token at the entrance barrier which you need to validate at the payment machine within the reception area of the hospital and when leaving put the token into the machine at the exit barrier.

Concessions

There are concessions available for certain categories of patients and visitors. Those with special circumstances and longer term parking needs should check with ward staff to see if they are eligible for concessionary parking.

Drop Off / Short Stay Parking

There are also drop off bays/short stay parking areas at each of our sites which enable 20 minutes of free parking.
