County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, in collaboration with two local residents and a dedicated local reporter, is proud to announce the unveiling of a new memorial to honor the names of fallen heroes from World War I and II who were previously missing from an existing memorial. The memorial, located in the grounds of Darlington Memorial Hospital, within Memorial Hall, serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by these brave individuals.
The project, spearheaded by two passionate local residents and supported by the hospital's NHS Trust, involved extensive research and investigation to identify the names of those who were missing from the original memorial.
On Remembrance Weekend, the new installations will be unveiled, providing a fitting tribute to the brave who gave their lives in service to their country. The memorial serves as a place of reflection and remembrance for both hospital staff and the wider community.
The NHS Trust is honored to have been able to support this important initiative and contribute to the creation and installation of the missing names. The memorial stands as a testament to the Trust's commitment to honouring the sacrifices made by those who fought for our freedom.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the two local residents and the dedicated local reporter for their tireless efforts in researching and identifying the missing names. Their dedication and passion have ensured that these fallen heroes are finally recognised and remembered.
The unveiling of the new memorial is a significant moment for Darlington Memorial Hospital and the entire community. It serves as a reminder of the bravery and selflessness of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
'As I was very, very nervous, I must have been the worst patient ever and they were brilliant with me and I can't thank them enough - could you please pass on my sincere thanks.'
