County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust has started a programme of demolition and construction works on site at University Hospital of North Durham.

The works will ultimately create more space for positive future developments on the site and is part of the Trust's plans to continually improve patient care and experience.

An enclosure with plastic curtains is now in place at the Accident and Emergency entrance and exit during demolition activities to prevent dust.

Self-closing pedestrian doors will be located at either end of the enclosure. Pedestrians walking from Aykley Heads will be directed through the pedestrian doors in to the main entrance.

We apologise to local residents living near to University Hospital of North Durham for any inconvenience or disruption that may be caused during the works.

Traffic marshals are in place during day and night shift hours to ensure that emergency department traffic is maintained throughout the works. Only emergency vehicles will be permitted through the enclosure and any staff or public vehicles will be stopped and redirected to the main car park.

Construction traffic will be restricted between the hours of 7am and 9am and 1:30pm and 3pm to make way for peak staff and visitors traffic.
