New Running Club for Beginners

An award winning running club in Easington is launching a new eight week programme for beginners.

The Easington Hares Running Club is offering an eight week programme for beginners starting on Thursday June 7 from 5.15pm - 6.00pm for only £1 per session.

Running Club leader, Amy McKenna, County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust said: "The sessions are structured for new runners at a gentle pace so everyone can work at their own fitness ability. The sessions start with walking and gradually build up to jogging a couple of miles."

Joint funding from the Tony Blair Sports Foundation and Northumbrian Water will also allow five local people to become leaders in running fitness to help sustain running groups in the area.

Easington Hares recently won 'East Durham Club of the Year 2011' at the Active Easington Sports Awards. They are currently based at Healthworks and train around the Easington Colliery area.

Anyone interested in the beginners running club should contact Healthworks on 0191 5274150 or pop into the centre located on Paradise Lane, Easington.

Healthworks, the healthy living centre works in partnership with NHS County Durham and Darlington, County Durham and Darlington Community Health Services, Northumbrian Water and Durham County Council.

Healthworks is located in Easington, County Durham and provides a wide range of health information, activities and support to those living in Easington, and the surrounding area.
