Bridge Community Hospital:
As health partners we are committed to delivering healthcare
services and facilities in the Consett and North Durham area. The
recent relocation of inpatients from Shotley Bridge Community
Hospital was a result of the increasing risk to patient safety
posed by an issue with the water and drainage infrastructure on the
The relocation means NHS Property Services, as the owner of the
hospital building, now has unrestricted access to further
investigate the full extent of the problem identified. NHS
Property Services will now conduct a more detailed review of the
issue and identify the options available to address the issues.
This work will also establish the likely impact on services
operating on the site, timeframes for work and costs.
Once this information is available local healthcare partners can
review the implications for the site for the short and long term
including potential costs and timeframes for any programme of

for housing development, NHS Property Services Ltd can confirm that
the site is not for sale. As the property is required for
delivery of local healthcare services it will continue to be used
for that purpose.
