Miss Katherine Grant

Consultant Colorectal Surgeon

I was an undergraduate in Newcastle, and following higher surgical training in London, moved back to the North East in 2012 to take up a consultant post in Durham. During training, I undertook research into colorectal cancer cell growth, and was awarded an MSc with distinction in 2000. I also undertook two specialist national fellowships at St Marks Hospital, which is an internationally renowned centre for the treatment of colorectal disease.

I am the inflammatory bowel disease surgical lead for the Trust, and perform most of the ileo-anal pouch surgery. I am also interested in colorectal cancer, and perform the majority of cases laparoscopically.

I enjoy teaching and training and run the Foundation teaching programme in surgery. I am an ATLS instructor, and examine for final MBBS. I also regularly participate in teaching third and final year MBBS students.
