Mr Amir Bhatti

Consultant General Surgeon

I have started my first substantive post in Durham University Hospital as Breast, Endocrine and General Surgeon in 2005.

I have started SLNB service for Breast Cancer patients in UHND and we are the only hospital in north east to provide this service using radioactivity and blue dye. This procedure avoids axillary clearance operation in 70% breast cancer patients and reduces the morbidity significantly.

I am very interested in developing Parathyroid surgery in this area. I have started Focused Parathyroidectomies in UHND which are done on daycase or overnight stay basis. I am on general surgery on-call rota and undertake elective laparoscopic gallbladder and hernia operations as well as other general surgical operations.
