Respiratory medicine

The respiratory team operates from four hospital sites including Bishop Auckland hospital, Darlington memorial hospital, Shotley Bridge hospital and University hospital of North Durham providing care to patients in hospital and in the outpatient setting.

Key elements of the service include;

            COPD

            Asthma

            Bronchiectasis

            Interstitial lung disease

            Breathing disordered sleep clinic

            Lung cancer

The team meet regularly for multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss diagnosis, radiology, and treatment options for complex patients.

The team of respiratory consultants and specialist nurses both in the community and the hospital work together to diagnose and treat patients with a wide range of respiratory conditions.

The community respiratory nursing team see patients in their own homes and in local clinics to diagnose and treat asthma and COPD. They also support patients with other respiratory conditions.
