F4 – Focus on Food and Fluid First

logo resizedWelcome to the F4 webpage. F4 is an abbreviation for a new campaign in CDDFT hospitals, called 'Focus on Food and Fluid First'. F4 is developed by CDDFT's 'Nutrition and Hydration Improvement Team'; a group of dietitians, caterers and nurses who are passionate about improving patient experiences on nutrition and hydration.

It is essential that nutrition and hydration are a central part of every patient's treatment whilst in hospital. Evidence shows that if a patient receives good nutrition and hydration their recovery improves and their stay in hospital can be reduced.

F4 is a campaign which incorporates the nutritional and hydration needs of patients throughout every stage of their hospital stay, including providing patients and carers with advice following transfer home. F4 concentrates on patients who are identified to be at risk of weight loss, referred to as undernutrition.

It is common during illness and after surgery that many people experience a poor appetite, at a time when they may need more nutrition to help healing and recovery.

While the patient is in hospital, F4 has taken every step to help maximise the nutritional intakes for patients identified at risk of undernutrition, to help promote a speedy recovery.
