The Bone Densitometry (DEXA) service runs at both UHND and DMH and
is used in the diagnosis of osteporosis and the estimation of
fracture risk. DEXA scans use low energy x-rays of two
different energies (Dual Energy
X-ray Absorptiometry) to estimate
bone mineral density. The patient must be able
to flat and remain still for a few minutes while the scan
takes place. The spine and hip are scanned and the results
expressed as a score relative to the rest of the population.
'The treatment I have received from all the staff has been
excellent and could you extend my thanks to them all. A very
thankful and relieved patient'.
