Integrated Musculoskeletal Services

What is the County Durham Integrated MSK Service (CD-IMS) and what do we offer?

CD-IMS is a community based service for Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions, including injuries and conditions involving the bones, joints, muscles and nerves.  The service is comprised of Extended Scope Practitioners (ESP's), Advanced & Specialist MSK Physiotherapists and Physiotherapy Assistants.

Our ESP's are able to request diagnostic investigations including x-rays, ultrasound, MRI, EMG & bloods tests. The ESP & Advanced Physiotherapists assess for and deliver corticosteroid injections. The ESP can refer direct to secondary care as required.

We support patients to self-manage and empower them to maximise any advice or treatment prescribed for the best possible outcomes. Please see our Patient Information page for further advice on you symptoms and their management.

We implement Shared Decision Making at all stages of the pathway to ensure patients are fully engaged in their treatment plan, and take ownership of their condition, as early as possible.

Who is this for?

CD-IMS  provides a single point of access for all Musculoskeletal referrals for all patients aged 16 and over with a Co Durham or Durham Dales, Easington or Sedgefield (DDES) GP.
