Building families building futures
We are lucky enough to have two hospital sites for you to choose from:
University Hospital of North Durham (UHND) or Darlington Memorial Hospital (DMH)
We also have dedicated community teams to support you, find out more about our Community Midwives service.
Our focus is on family centred care and we promote normality in birth which means that both our hospital sites provide midwife-led care for mums-to-be and birthing people who are having a low risk pregnancy. There is of course consultant support for those more high risk pregnancies or if intervention is needed during labour.
We aim to provide the best possible experience for mothers, birthing people, babies and families - we want you and your family to be involved in making informed choices about your journey through pregnancy, birth and parenthood. Our aim is to give dignity through kind, safe, compassionate and joined-up care.
We strive to base our practice on the best available evidence. We aspire to continually make every contact with women and families count towards improving their health and wellbeing.
During your pregnancy and labour, decisions should be made with you not for you. To support this, there is a a personalised care plan on the Badgernet notes app that will support and guide women and birthing people to ask question sand plan their care together with healthcare professionals.
Find out more about personalised care and support planning in maternity services in the short video below.
