Maternity

Building families building futures

Welcome to County Durham and Darlington Maternity Services

We're delighted that you are considering having your baby with us.

You can choose to give birth at either University Hospital of North Durham (UHND) or Darlington Memorial Hospital (DMH) or be supported in a home birth by our community midwives.

Our focus is on family centred care and we promote normality in birth which means that both our hospital sites provide midwife-led care for mums-to-be who are having a low risk pregnancy.

There is of course consultant support for those more high risk pregnancies or if intervention is needed during labour.

To help you decide where you would like to give birth you can take a tour around our labour wards at UHND and DMH and meet some of the midwives who would be supporting you through labour.

'I have to compliment everyone on their pleasant persona and their expertise and knowledge. By the end of the 5 days, I did not feel as though I had been in a hospital ward and was very relaxed.'
