Listening Service

Listening service

Are there still times when you wonder about the birth of your baby?

Have you got unanswered questions regarding this important time of your life? If so, then this service may be able to help.

Our listening service has two main aims; to help women explore their birth experience by giving them opportunity to reflect and gain answers to questions, and to help our Maternity Services to identify areas where we can improve our service provision.

We have a team of experienced midwives who are able to meet with you in confidence to review your experience of pregnancy and childbirth. We receive feedback from women who have delivered with us and are looking for a greater understanding of the birth and events related to it. We are able to offer a Midwife led service that explores the birth events in a friendly environment and that aims to help women to express how the experience has met their expectations, and enable us to talk through unanswered questions with them

This is not a counseling service but offers you the opportunity to review your care. Women may benefit from this service for quite some time after delivery, so one of the most important aspects of the listening service is that there is no time limit imposed. We see women who have had a wide variety of experiences and sometimes many years after their birth.

We know that the birth experiences can be very emotive and can stay with women for the rest of their lives. Our experience shows that clarification of issues can help dissolve fears and build confidence in planning for future pregnancies.

We have also gained great benefit from working through the events with women, and have been able to use their feedback, both positive and negative, to help us in working toward providing the best service possible. The feedback from women and their families is fed back to all staff to help facilitate changes.

'In recent times, I have utilised admissions to Richardson for respite direct from my fracture clinic, even at weekends. I have never worked anywhere with this efficiency before - it is reassuring and invaluable for the patient.'
