Audiology

We provide a comprehensive Audiology service across County Durham and Darlington. We offer both Adult and Paediatric services covering hearing tests, hearing aids (including bone conduction hearing aids - BCHI and CROS/BICROS hearing systems), hearing and listening tactics, tinnitus and sound sensitivity and vestibular assessment and balance rehabilitation.

Services are delivered via our main centres at University Hospital North Durham and Darlington Memorial Hospital. A number of clinics also take place at various other locations within the community and we aim to offer as much flexability as possible.

Hearing aid Batteries

Hearing aid batteries for current County Durham & Darlington NHS trust hearing aid users can be collected from the Audiology Reception Desk at University Hospital of North Durham and the Outpatient C Reception Desk at Darlington Memorial Hospital only.

Alternatively, batteries can be posted direct and these can be requested via telephone or email.

Hearing aid Repairs

Hearing Aid Repairs can be dropped off at the Audiology Reception Desk at University Hospital of North Durham and the Outpatient C Reception Desk at Darlington Memorial Hospital only, between Monday-Friday 8.30am-5.00pm, excluding bank holidays. However, we cannot guarantee a same day turn around and we will contact you when the repair has been completed.

Alternatively, a face-to-face appointment can be made by contacting the department via telephone or email.

Hearing aid Tubing

Slim tubes and domes and regular earmould tubing can be posted direct. Please request this via telephone or email.

The hearing aid repair and battery service is only available to current hearing aid users fitted by County Durham and Darlington hospitals.

Other NHS Hearing Aid Providers

Please note that if your NHS hearing aid was issued by another provider (including high street providers), you will need to contact them for replacement batteries and hearing aid repairs.

Unfortunately, you are unlikely to be eligible for referral to County Durham & Darlington Audiology Department if you have received your hearing aid from another hospital or NHS provider within the last 3 years.
