Firelighter

  Firelighter Award

A Firelighter award is an internal subsidy available to new researchers who have the skills and enthusiasm but may not have the track record or infra-structure to be eligible for other funding streams.

Eligibility could be for any of the following:

  • Starting up research activity in a new specialty or sub-specialty
  • Starting up research activity as a  new Principle Investigator
  • Starting up a new trial which requires significant effort and for which there is no other support (this will be reviewed on a case by case basis)

The award is given as a single payment for one year and is open to all staff.  After the first year of funding it is expected that applicants will be actively recruiting to NIHR portfolio studies and will therefore receive support funding from the Local Research Network via the R&D department.

Finances awarded will be managed by the R&D directorate and will be either:

  • up to £3125 - Principle Investigator support only
  • up to £6250 - Principle Investigator and Research team support

Applications for the award may be made at any time during the year. To apply for this award complete the application form in the links section of this page or, for more information please contact R&D via research@cddft.nhs.uk
