You have been invited to attend the KHOPE Group for your Knee or Hip Pain.
KHOPE stands for Knee Hip Osteoarthritis Participation & Education. The KHOPE Group is for people with long-term knee or hip pain.
It is a programme that combines learning and exercise. It is designed to help people with long-term knee and hip pain. The programme can help you:
The KHOPE Group is a seven-week programme. Sessions take place once a week and each session lasts around one hour.
Before the programme begins, you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire and once completed you will be allocated a place on the programme. You will receive an appointment confirmation by text message or via letter if no mobile is recorded for you.
Each session includes two parts:
At the final session, you will be asked to complete short questionnaire about your pain and how you manage it. This helps us understand whether the programme has been helpful.
Yes. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing that you can move easily in and flat, supportive shoes suitable for exercise. You may also wish to bring a drink. No specialist equipment is required, and everything else needed for the session will be provided.
Some discomfort when starting new activity can occur. This does not usually mean harm. With the right guidance, most people find that movement becomes easier over time and symptoms become more manageable.
No. The programme is designed to be accessible.
Exercises can be adjusted depending on your starting point, and you will be supported to progress at a suitable pace.
You are not expected to complete every exercise at the same level as others.
The sessions are supervised, and adjustments can be made based on your needs.
Attending regularly is important to gain the full benefit of the programme.
If you are unable to attend a session, please inform the clinician as soon as possible
You do not have to take part in any activity you are not comfortable with, and speaking in the group is optional.
If you do not wish to attend group sessions, you can still use our self-management resources to help you manage your condition independently. If you choose not to attend, please let your clinician know so the appropriate support can be arranged.
The aim of the programme is to support you to manage your condition independently. In most cases, no further input is needed after you finish. If ongoing support is required because self-management is not possible or symptoms remain difficult to manage, you can be reappointed with the original referring clinician for review.
