County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust (CDDFT) is proud to announce a significant achievement in its digital transformation journey, with more than 100,000 patients now registered to view their outpatient appointments via the Patient Engagement Portal (PEP) through the NHS App.

The MyHealthCall Patient Engagement Portal, developed and delivered in partnership with Health Call — a wholly NHS-owned digital health solutions provider — has enabled patients to take greater control of their care by offering digital access to appointment information.

Since its initial pilot launch in January 2024 with Gastroenterology, the portal has rapidly expanded to cover 30 specialties, making more than 450,000 outpatient appointments visible through the NHS App.

This milestone marks a major step forward in improving patient experience and reducing pressure on administrative teams.

Patients can now view, reschedule, or cancel their outpatient appointments digitally without needing to call the Trust’s Patient Booking teams.

Looking ahead, the project team is now focused on the next exciting development: enabling patients to access appointment letters digitally via the NHS App.

Patients will soon be able to choose between receiving letters by post or digitally, supporting both improved access to information and the Trust’s sustainability goals by reducing printing and postage.

This achievement reinforces CDDFT’s role as a forward-thinking, digitally enabled healthcare provider and highlights the benefits of close collaboration across NHS organisations to enhance patient care.
