As part of our ongoing celebration of Disability History Month, County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust (CDDFT) is proud to feature a special episode of our InsideCDDFT podcast, focusing on how we support colleagues with disabilities and long-term health conditions in the workplace.

The episode is available on all major podcast platforms and can also be watched on YouTube.

Supporting Disabilities in the Workplace

CDDFT is committed to improving the workplace experience for colleagues who identify as having disabilities or long-term conditions. Our support includes:

  • A dedicated Disability and Long-Term Conditions Policy

  • Provision of disability leave

  • Resources to create an inclusive environment, such as our Health Passport and managers’ reasonable adjustments guidance for recruitment and selection

We recognise the importance of continuously reviewing and updating our policies to meet the needs of our staff.

Looking Ahead: New Resources for 2026

Our Disability and Long-Term Conditions Staff Network Group is helping develop resources to support colleagues further, which are planned for release in early 2026:

  • Reviewing and updating the Disability and Long-Term Conditions Policy

  • Developing a reasonable adjustments guidance document for managers

  • Supporting the development of neurodiversity training for managers and staff

These initiatives are designed to create meaningful change, ensuring colleagues can thrive at work and continue to provide the highest standards of patient care.
