The Clinical Simulation Centre at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust was proud to recently welcome the Chairman, Professor Richard Scothon, for an in-depth look at the Trust’s innovative approach to medical education.
During his visit, Professor Scothon observed an Internal Medicine Training (IMT) course in action.
This immersive programme provides clinicians with practical, hands-on experience in core medical procedures, delivered through structured skills stations and small group teaching.
Led by an experienced faculty and supported by high-quality simulation models, the course is designed to boost confidence, enhance clinical competence, and ultimately improve patient safety.
Participants had the opportunity to develop and refine essential clinical skills across a range of key areas, benefitting from a safe and supportive learning environment that bridges the gap between theory and real-life clinical practice.
The visit reinforced the Trust’s commitment to educational innovation and investment in developing future-ready clinicians.
Professor Scothon’s engagement with faculty and learners alike highlighted the importance of simulation-based training as a vital component of modern medical education.
This visit reflects CDDFT’s ongoing dedication to clinical excellence and continuous professional development - ensuring that all staff are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to deliver high-quality, compassionate care across all settings.
