Inpatient services
ESCAPE-pain is a rehabilitation programme for people with chronic joint pain that integrates education and exercise. ESCAPE-pain offers programmes designed to benefit people with chronic knee and hip pain. ESCAPE-pain stands for Enabling Self-management and Coping with Arthritic Pain using Exercise.
The programme will help you have less pain and learn to cope with your knee and/or hip pain better.
ESCAPE-pain is delivered as 2 sessions per week for six weeks (12 classes in total). These are delivered via the ESCAPE-pain website online or via the app on your mobile phone or device. A Physiotherapy clinician will ring you 1 week before you begin the program to discuss everything with you. It is expected you will complete these sessions at home in your own time at a time convenient to you.
Each class usually starts with a brief (20 minute) video around a specific topic relating to joint pain. This helps participants to see and hear other experiences, so that shared learning takes place. This is followed by about 40 minutes of a simple circuit-type exercise programme followed online or via the app. A Physiotherapy clinician will contact you via telephone at week 2.
During the first and last session, you'll be asked to complete some questionnaires about your pain and management. A Physiotherapy clinician will contact you via telephone to discuss outcomes. This information is useful to see how much progress you have made, and to keep track of how ESCAPE-pain is helping people.
