Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) across the country are being recognised this AHPs Day for the vital role they play in delivering outstanding patient care across our hospitals and community services.

Country Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust are celebrating the eighth annual AHPs Day - a national opportunity to highlight the expertise, compassion, and innovation AHPs bring to healthcare every day.

AHPs are the third largest workforce in the NHS and include physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, radiographers, podiatrists, speech and language therapists, paramedics, and many others.

Together, they play an essential role in supporting recovery, promoting independence, and improving the health and wellbeing of our patients and communities.

To mark AHPs Day 2025, members of the Trust’s executive team visited AHP services across our sites to meet colleagues and hear more about their work. The visits highlighted the compassion, skill and innovation that AHPs bring to patient care across every service area - from hospitals to community settings.

Louise Stoker Nelson, Associate Director of Therapies said: “As we celebrate AHPs Day, I want to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to all our Allied Health Professionals across the Trust. Every day, you make a profound difference to the lives of our patients, working with compassion, skill and dedication — often in challenging circumstances.

"Whether you are supporting recovery, promoting independence, or driving innovation and improvement, your contribution is vital to the care we deliver and the values we uphold. I am incredibly proud to lead such a talented, passionate and resilient group of professionals.

Today is about celebrating you and recognising the impact you have — not just today, but every day. Thank you for all that you do.”
