Patients, visitors, and staff at Shotley Bridge Hospital can now enjoy a welcome refreshment thanks to the opening of a brand-new tea hatch, run by volunteers from Willow Burn Hospice in Lanchester.

The Tea Hatch will serve a range of hot and cold drinks, as well as light snacks, offering a friendly place to relax during a hospital visit. This partnership brings together the spirit of community and the dedication of volunteers to enhance the hospital experience for everyone.

Rich Jones, CDDFT Charity Manager said: "We’re delighted to be working with Willow Burn Hospice to provide this new service. The dedication and warmth of their volunteers will make the Tea Hatch a welcoming spot for everyone coming through our doors."

Rachel Quince, Deputy Chief Executive for Willow Burn Hospice said: “We are so proud to have opened the Tea Hatch bringing refreshments back to Shotley Bridge Hospital.

“The response to the service has been very positive and it has been a great experience working with the team in the hospital. We hope by having a presence at Shotley Bridge Hospital, that patients feel more confident to engage with volunteers to request information about Willow Burn and palliative care in their community.”

The Tea Hatch is open Monday to Thursday 9am – 4pm and Friday 9am until midday.
