Pupils from schools and colleges across County Durham and Darlington attended a special Allied Health Professionals (AHP) meet and greet event as part of National Careers Week (3–8 March 2026).

The event, held at Prospect House in Durham, was the Trust’s first dedicated AHP careers day and welcomed pupils to both morning and afternoon sessions to learn more about the wide range of roles within Allied Health Professions.

The sessions opened with a welcome from Widening Participation Ambassador Nikki Brodhurst, followed by presentations from children’s speech and language therapy, children’s physiotherapy and children’s occupational therapy teams.

Pupils then split into smaller groups to visit activity areas where they could speak with professionals, see demonstrations of specialist equipment and ask questions about career pathways. Each attendee also received a goodie bag to take away.

The event formed part of a busy National Careers Week for colleagues from the Trust supporting outreach activities across the region.

Teams also attended a careers event at Carmel College, supported mock interviews for Year 10 pupils at Consett Academy, delivered a careers talk to almost 200 Year 8 pupils during a school assembly, and hosted a careers workshop with sixth form students alongside specialist paediatric dietitian Anna Raine.

A huge thank you goes to everyone who helped make the Trust’s first AHP Careers Day such a success and to colleagues who supported events throughout the week, helping to inspire the future healthcare workforce.
