As part of our continued commitment to protecting the health and wellbeing of everyone who uses our services, we would like to remind patients and visitors that all of our hospital sites are strictly smokefree.
This means that smoking is not permitted anywhere on Trust premises, including all buildings, entrances, car parks and outdoor grounds.
Many people who visit our hospitals are especially vulnerable to the harmful effects of second-hand smoke - this includes pregnant women and birthing people, babies, children, and people with medical conditions.
By keeping our environments smokefree, we are helping to protect everyone’s health.
Our Trust first introduced a smokefree policy in 2007. Since then, we have worked hard to create a supportive and healthier environment for all.
While we do not discriminate against those who smoke, we kindly ask for your cooperation in not smoking anywhere on site. If someone is seen smoking, they may be respectfully asked to stop and extinguish their cigarette.
We understand that many people are now using e-cigarettes as a means to stop smoking. These are permitted for use outside within our grounds, as they do not produce second-hand smoke. However, they must not be used indoors.
Beyond the health risks, smoking on site also creates a serious fire hazard, particularly during dry weather conditions. Discarded cigarettes can easily ignite parched grass and cause fires to spread rapidly.
