Staff on Starling Ward at Richardson Community Hospital were deeply moved to receive a generous donation of £3,500 from the family of the late Darrel Chapman, in recognition of the compassionate care he received at the end of his life.
Darrel was admitted to the ward when no other hospital beds were available. His family shared their heartfelt thanks to the team, praising the staff for going above and beyond to ensure his final days were as peaceful and comfortable as possible - not only for him, but also for his loved ones.
In close discussion with his family, it has been agreed that the donation will be used to create a dedicated end-of-life room on the ward, providing a private and comforting space for patients and relatives. In addition, a special garden feature in Darrel’s memory will be developed, offering a place of reflection and comfort for families.
Jessica Goodfellow, speaking on behalf of the ward, said:
“We are truly grateful to Darrel’s family for this incredible donation. It means so much to us that they want to support the ward in his memory.
Creating a special space for end-of-life care, and something in our garden that families can take comfort in, will make a real difference for future patients and their loved ones.”
This generous gift stands as a lasting tribute to Darrel and a reflection of the compassion and dedication shown by the Starling Ward team.
