Last week’s Vape Amnesty event, held as part of the ongoing Swap to Stop initiative, has been hailed a great success, with high levels of engagement and encouraging outcomes for individuals seeking to quit smoking or switch to a less harmful alternative.
A huge thank you goes out to everyone who supported and ran the event – your contributions played a key role in helping people take positive steps towards better health.
Key Highlights from the Event:
-
101 people engaged in conversations about quitting smoking and vaping
-
100 regulated vapes were distributed:
-
60 to people currently using disposable vapes
-
30 to current smokers
-
10 to individuals who both smoked and vaped
-
-
47 disposable vapes were handed in for safe disposal
-
Every smoker received a QR code linking directly to local stop smoking services, with six referrals received by lunchtime on the day
In combination with the earlier hospital night shift event at Darlington Memorial Hospital, the team engaged with 164 smokers and distributed 155 vapes in total last week.
The Swap to Stop initiative is part of a wider push to reduce smoking rates and promote the use of less harmful alternatives.
The vapes used in this programme contain only four key ingredients – nicotine, flavourings, propylene glycol (found in inhalers), and vegetable glycerine (commonly used in cough syrups) – and are tightly regulated to ensure safety and quality.
A Step Towards a Smoke-Free Future
By offering practical support and safer alternatives, Swap to Stop is making a meaningful difference in the journey towards a smoke-free future.
Remember – it’s never too late to quit.
