County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust (CDDFT) has appointed Alison Marshall as Interim Chair, marking the start of a new phase in the Trust’s journey to strengthen leadership, culture and governance.
Alison brings a wealth of NHS leadership experience, most recently serving as Chair of Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust, where she helped guide the organisation through the Covid-19 pandemic and played a key role in shaping its long-term strategy.
She was also the first Chair of the Great North Healthcare Alliance, promoting collaboration, innovation, and a values-led approach to improving care for patients and staff.
In her role at CDDFT, Alison will work closely with Chief Executive Steve Russell and the Board to continue driving improvements and support a culture of openness, inclusion, and partnership across the organisation.
“While CDDFT is currently facing a time of challenge, I am pleased to step in as Interim Chair to support a positive move forward, with a relentless commitment to safety, supporting our people, and improving the experience of every patient and family across County Durham and Darlington,” said Alison Marshall.
The appointment comes as the Trust works with NHS England and the Integrated Care Board (ICB) to strengthen its leadership capability and governance following the recent review of Breast Surgical services.
As part of this transition, Professor Richard Scothon has stepped down from his role as Trust Chairman.
This leadership change marks an important step for CDDFT as it focuses on providing safe, high-quality care and continuing to build a culture where colleagues can work together with pride and purpose.
