About our service
Our team of accredited screening colonoscopists and specialist screening practitioners provides bowel cancer screening for people aged 50 to 74 years through the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. Eligible individuals are invited every two years to complete a home faecal immunochemical test (FIT), with further assessment and colonoscopy offered when required. People aged 75 and over can also request bowel cancer screening every two years through the national programme.
How to access our services
Our service is delivered from our accredited Bowel Cancer Screening Centre at Bishop Auckland Hospital, which achieved JAG accreditation in 2012. We also provide satellite assessment clinics at Shotley Bridge Hospital and Darlington Memorial Hospital, offering patients convenient access to pre-assessment and screening support closer to home.
Patients requiring specialist bowel cancer screening investigations following a positive screening result are seen and treated through our dedicated screening pathway by our experienced multidisciplinary team.
