Patients visiting the Outpatients Department at University Hospital of North Durham can now access a dedicated quiet room, offering a calm and private space for anyone who needs time away from the busy hospital environment.
The room has been transformed with support from CDDFT Charity and has been designed to provide a welcoming, peaceful environment for patients and families during hospital visits. It is available for both adults and children, and includes resources to support relaxation, focus and emotional wellbeing.
Andrea Whitehouse, Sister within the department, said the space has been created for patients who may have received difficult news, been given a cancer diagnosis, or who would benefit from a quieter and more supportive setting while attending hospital.
The atmosphere has been further enhanced thanks to a generous donation of local landscape photographs from Durham Photographic Society. Displayed in the Quiet Room and the main Outpatients Department, the images showcase scenes from across County Durham and help create a comforting environment for patients, families and staff.
Many patients have already enjoyed recognising familiar local landmarks and landscapes, helping the area feel more welcoming and connected to the local community.
