About our service

The Clubfoot Service in County Durham and Darlington is a specialist service for children born with Clubfoot (also known as talipes or congenital talipes equinovarus).

The team is made up of specialist physiotherapists in the Children’s Therapy Team and Paediatric Orthopaedics.

The service covers new patient assessment, serial casting, tenotomy, follow up and orthotic management, as well as ante-natal support.

We hold casting clinics in Bishop Auckland Hospital and Darlington Memorial Hospital. We work in the plaster room with the orthopaedic technicians for the initial correction phase of treatment (casting).

Clubfoot management

Babies are treated using the Ponseti Method which includes casting the feet in a corrected position and holding the position with boots and bar device until the child is 5 years old. Babies may also have a procedure called a tenotomy which helps lengthen the tendon on the back of the foot.

Below are some useful videos showing the treatment process for Clubfoot. If you have any further questions or require help, please use the contact details provided.
