Staff at Sedgefield Community Hospital were delighted to welcome Theresa Newell, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday and chose to donate her birthday money to support patients on the ward.

Theresa kindly donated £400 after receiving birthday money from family and friends. She wanted to give something back to the hospital because of the care her late husband received there over the years.

Her husband had been cared for on the ward several times and also attended the day unit, making the hospital a place with a special connection for Theresa and her family.

Theresa visited the ward with her daughter, Angela Turner, who works at Sedgefield Community Hospital, and her son-in-law, to meet staff and make the donation in person.

Louise West, Matron for Community Hospitals at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, said:

“We were delighted to welcome Theresa to Sedgefield Community Hospital and would like to thank her sincerely for such a generous donation.

“It is incredibly kind of Theresa to think of our patients while celebrating such a special birthday. Her donation will help us support patients on the ward, and it means a great deal to colleagues that she wanted to give something back in recognition of the care her family received.

“We would all like to wish Theresa a very happy 100th birthday.”

A huge thank you to Theresa for her generosity and support.
