The Trust’s Clinical Scientist team is celebrating national recognition following success at the recent UKLabMed25 Conference.
Dr Laura Bernstone was named runner-up in the Clinical Case Award, presenting an interactive case on Vitamin D toxicity.
Her work highlighted the vital role of the duty biochemist in investigating complex scenarios, where laboratory results are central to patient management.
The case demonstrated effective collaboration across a multidisciplinary team (MDT) both locally and nationally.
Meanwhile, Hazel Borthwick received one of the most prestigious honours in laboratory medicine – the National Association for Laboratory Medicine’s President’s Shield.
This national award is presented by the Association’s President to recognise an outstanding contribution to the field.
Hazel was recognised for her exceptional services to education, training, and workforce development.
She has been a member of the Association’s Education Committee since 2007, serving in various roles, and dedicated seven years as Director for Training, Education and Workforce.
These awards highlight the expertise, commitment, and leadership within our Clinical Scientist team, whose work continues to have a significant impact both within the Trust and across the profession nationally.
