An inspiring Regional Internationally Educated Midwives (IEM) Support Event was held last week at The Durham Centre, led and organised by Chioma Chukwu, Midwife at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust (CDDFT).

Chioma curated a truly special and personalised day that beautifully captured the shared journeys of internationally educated midwives across the North East.

The event was filled with joy, laughter, dancing – and most importantly, open and thought-provoking conversations around the unique challenges IEMs face as they integrate into local teams and communities.

Funded by CDDFT Maternity, the event welcomed internationally educated midwives from across the region, creating a safe and supportive space for reflection, experience sharing, and connection-building.

Discussions also explored positive, practical solutions to better support colleagues and improve the integration experience for all.

This event marks a key milestone in the development of the regional IEM support network – a fantastic, self-led initiative that CDDFT Maternity is proud to back.

The network continues to play a vital role in amplifying the voices of international midwives and fostering a more inclusive and collaborative maternity workforce.

A heartfelt thank you and well done to Chioma and everyone involved for delivering such a memorable and impactful event.
