We are proud to announce the appointment of Kim Williams as the new Director of Midwifery at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust (CDDFT).
While Kim has been settling into her new role over the past few weeks, we would like to take this opportunity to formally welcome her to the Trust.
Kim joins us with an impressive 24-year career in midwifery, bringing with her a rich combination of clinical expertise and strategic leadership.
Her professional journey includes roles as Labour Ward Co-ordinator, Head of Midwifery, Interim Director of Midwifery, and Senior University Lecturer. Each position has strengthened her ability to lead with compassion, clarity, and an unwavering focus on high-quality care.
In 2023, Kim was instrumental in shaping a comprehensive Maternity Services Workforce Plan that aligned with both national priorities and the overarching Maternity Services Vision and Strategy.
Most recently, she served as Interim Director of Midwifery at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, where her leadership during a crucial CQC inspection helped elevate the service's rating from Requires Improvement to Good.
Kim is widely recognised for her commitment to excellence. She was named Lecturer of the Year three years running (2018–2020) at the University of Manchester’s Recognising Excellence and Achievement (REA) Awards and was honoured as Midwife of the Year in 2021.
Known for her collaborative, visible, and inclusive leadership style, Kim is dedicated to ensuring that maternity services are safe, responsive, and centred around women, pregnant people, and their families.
Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Kim as she takes on this pivotal role. We look forward to the future of our maternity services under her guidance and expertise.
