This Thursday, 5 June, we join healthcare organisations across the UK in recognising Biomedical Science Day 2025 – a day to celebrate the dedication, expertise and vital contributions of our Pathology teams here at CDDFT.

Our Biomedical Scientists, Clinical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants play a crucial role behind the scenes every single day – and night – delivering accurate, timely diagnostics and helping to shape patient care.

Their work underpins more than 85% of clinical pathways across the NHS.

Biomedical science involves the analysis of clinical samples to detect and monitor disease, guide treatment and support recovery.

It is a cornerstone of modern medicine and forms the basis for a huge proportion of diagnostic activity – with more than 1.5 billion samples processed across the UK each year.

We are incredibly proud of the skill, knowledge, strength and compassion shown by our Pathology teams. Like all members of #TeamCDDFT, they go above and beyond to support our patients, our communities and each other.

To mark the occasion, our teams will be hosting stands to showcase their work and answer questions from colleagues and visitors:

  • University Hospital of North Durham: 11.00am – 2.00pm (outside Saffrey’s Restaurant, or Outpatients Deptartment if space unavailable)

  • Darlington Memorial Hospital: 11.30am – 1.00pm (outside WH Smith)

Please come along to say hello and show your support.
