The Friends of Darlington Memorial Hospital have received a generous £500 donation from the Darlington Lions Club to support their long-running Volunteer Car Service.

Lions Club President Denis Pinnegar and Past President Ian Barnes presented the cheque to Friends Chairman David Lister and Past Chairman Alan Charlton, recognising the vital role volunteers play in helping patients access hospital care.

The Volunteer Car Service, which has been operating since 1997, provides transport for between 4,000 and 5,000 patients each year to attend appointments at Darlington Memorial Hospital and Bishop Auckland Hospital.

John has been a volunteer driver since 2014 and explains what the volunteer drivers do in this short video.

Relying entirely on donations to cover fuel and running costs, the service is a lifeline for many patients who would otherwise struggle to reach their appointments.

This contribution from the Darlington Lions offers a much-needed boost to help keep the wheels turning and ensure patients continue to receive the support they need.
