On Monday 7 July, five dedicated members of the Neonatal Team from the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Darlington Memorial Hospital will swap their scrubs for hiking boots to embark on a challenging 20-mile trek around Ullswater in the Lake District.
This inspiring fundraising effort aims to support the vital work of the SCBU, which cares for premature and unwell newborn babies and provides essential support to their families during difficult times.
The funds raised from the trek will be used to enhance the comfort and experience of both babies and their loved ones by purchasing additional equipment, family resources, and wellbeing items - all designed to improve care and create a more supportive environment.
Ward Sister Kayleigh Hutchinson, one of the team members taking on the trek, said:"This is a cause incredibly close to our hearts. We see the strength of our little fighters and their families every day, and we wanted to go the extra mile — quite literally — to give something back to them."
The Ullswater trek is no small challenge, with tough terrain and a long distance to cover. But the team’s determination is fuelled by the difference their efforts could make for the babies in their care.
Anyone wishing to support this incredible cause can donate via the team’s JustGiving page.
We wish the team the very best of luck as they take on this fantastic challenge for an amazing cause.
