Falls can happen to anyone, but as we get older, they can have a bigger impact on our confidence, independence and everyday life.

Six out of 10 falls happen in the home – but falls can be prevented.

The good news is that there are simple things you can do to help reduce your risk of falling and stay active and independent.

As part of Falls Awareness Week, our Community Falls Service is supporting a series of free drop-in events across County Durham where people aged 65 and over, as well as their families and carers, can find out more about falls prevention.

What can you find out about?

At the events, you can speak to professionals and get practical advice about:

  • Improving strength and balance
  • Making your home safer
  • Reducing your risk of falling
  • Staying active and independent
  • Local services and support available to you
  • Support and resources for carers and family members

You do not need to have had a fall to attend. The events are also suitable for anyone who would like to find out more about preventing falls or supporting someone else.

Where and when are the events?

All events are free to attend and are drop-in, so there is no need to book. You can arrive at any time during the event.
