The County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust book club, The Fiction Prescription, is celebrating a major milestone this week after welcoming its 150th member to the mailing list.

To mark the occasion, the club was joined by the Trust Chairman Professor Richard Scothon, who visited to celebrate with members and recognise the growing success of this initiative.

Launched in late 2024, The Fiction Prescription was created to offer staff a chance to unwind through reading, at their own pace and on their own terms.

The club encourages leisurely engagement, providing a flexible way for busy healthcare professionals to connect with literature and each other outside of work.

Participation is entirely optional and designed to suit varying levels of interest.

Whether staff want to join group discussions, recommend titles, or simply receive the monthly newsletter, the club offers something for everyone.

The growing membership reflects the positive impact the club has had across the Trust, helping staff find moments of calm, creativity, and community in their day-to-day lives.

With 150 members and counting, The Fiction Prescription is proving that sometimes, the best remedy really is a good book.
