We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Friends of Richardson at Barnard Castle for their generous purchase of new equipment for the Diabetic Eye Screening Programme.
This contribution will directly support the work of the programme and enhance the quality of service we provide to patients.
Thanks to this funding, a new slit lamp camera from Topcon has been purchased. This important investment means patients will no longer need to travel to alternative hospital sites for slit lamp examinations, improving convenience and access to care closer to home.
A slit lamp examination is a routine, painless eye test that uses a high-intensity light and microscope to provide a magnified, three-dimensional view of the eye’s structures, including the eyelids, cornea, iris and lens. It plays a vital role in diagnosing and monitoring conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma and corneal injuries.
The addition of this new equipment will help ensure patients can receive high-quality care within their local community, reducing unnecessary travel and improving the overall patient experience.
We are extremely grateful for the continued support and commitment shown by the Friends of Richardson at Barnard Castle, whose generosity continues to make a meaningful difference to both our service and the patients we serve.
