Colleagues in the Emergency Department at University Hospital of North Durham (UHND) are already seeing the benefits of a new touchscreen installed at the nurses’ station.

The larger screen has replaced the department’s previous monitor, which was smaller and did not have touchscreen capability, making it more difficult for colleagues to view and access important information quickly.

Amy Nelson, Nursing Coordinator and Emergency Department Sister, said the new screen has made a real difference to the team.

She said: “It’s much better than the screen we had before. We can see observations and patient locations really quickly and clearly, which makes a big difference in such a busy environment.

“It also makes it easier and safer for us to see where our more seriously unwell patients are, and it’s really helpful for porters as they can easily see who is in which room.”

The improvement is a practical example of how investment in digital technology can make everyday tasks easier for colleagues, support safer working and help services run more smoothly for patients.

It also supports the Trust’s strategic ambition to be Digitally Strong, ensuring colleagues have quick and easy access to the information they need to deliver safe and effective care.
