Earlier this month, colleagues from NHS England visited the Emergency Department and wider hospital site at Darlington Memorial Hospital.

Following the visit, Cora Presley, Deputy Director for Service Delivery, Transformation & Resilience (Office of the Chief Nurse, NHS England), wrote to thank teams for their openness and professionalism during what has been a particularly pressured period.

In her feedback, she highlighted the compassion, resilience and dedication demonstrated by colleagues across the department.

She recognised the way teams continue to manage significant operational pressures while delivering high-quality care in challenging environments.

The visit also acknowledged the constructive and innovative work underway to improve patient flow, strengthen safety and support staff wellbeing. This includes ongoing efforts to enhance pathways of care and ensure patients receive timely and appropriate treatment.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to speak with colleagues during the visit, while continuing to provide care to patients.

The professionalism, teamwork and commitment shown across the Emergency Department and the whole of the Trust does not go unnoticed.
