Patients on a Patient Initiated Follow Up pathway can now request an appointment through the NHS App, following the launch of a new digital feature.

The service, introduced through our Patient Engagement Portal, offers patients a quicker and more convenient way to access follow-up care without needing to phone our booking teams.

Patient Initiated Follow Up, known as PIFU, gives suitable patients greater flexibility by allowing them to contact the service when they need clinical support, rather than attending routine appointments that may not be necessary.

The new NHS App feature helps patients manage their own care and hospital appointments in one familiar place, giving them greater choice and autonomy.

The feature is initially being trialled within gynaecology. We will share further updates as it becomes available across more services.
