Congratulations to two talented colleagues from Synchronicity Care Limited (SCL), who recently represented the organisation in the regional heats of the NHS Chef of the Year 2026 competition.
Helen Raine, Senior Retail Supervisor, and Karen Ferguson, Chef at University Hospital of North Durham, took part in the prestigious competition on Wednesday 8 July, showcasing their culinary skills alongside NHS catering professionals from across the region.
Organised annually by NHS England, the NHS Chef of the Year competition celebrates excellence in NHS catering, recognising teams and individuals who deliver nutritious, sustainable and delicious food for patients, visitors and staff.
For the regional heats, Helen and Karen impressed the judges with a carefully crafted three-course menu featuring:
- Mediterranean Super Green & Chickpea Stew
- Pan-roasted Duck Breast with Pea Purée, Pearl Barley and Apple
- Strawberry Rhubarb Harmony
The pair will find out in early August whether they have secured a place in the NHS Chef of the Year Grand Final, which takes place in September.
Everyone at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust and Synchronicity Care Limited wishes Helen and Karen the very best of luck and congratulates them on representing the organisation in this prestigious national competition.
Synchronicity Care Limited (SCL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, employing more than 800 colleagues who deliver estates, facilities and procurement services across eight hospital sites, community properties and private sector organisations.
