Two teams have been recognised for their compassion, dedication and commitment to making a difference to patients and communities across County Durham and Darlington.
Ward 12 Respiratory Team at University Hospital of North Durham (UHND) and Health Squad in Darlington have been named joint winners of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust’s September 2026 Team of the Month award.
Both teams received heartfelt nominations celebrating the positive impact of their work.
Ward 12 Respiratory Team, UHND
One nomination highlighted the heartfelt feedback received from a patient's family, thanking colleagues for the exceptional care and support they provided during an incredibly difficult time.
The team was also recognised for the supportive environment it has created for colleagues and student nurses. Nominations described how staff come together through both happy and challenging moments, supporting one another to provide the best possible care.
A student nurse also shared how the team's kindness, encouragement and willingness to share their knowledge had helped them develop their skills and confidence during their placement.
Health Squad, Darlington
Health Squad was recognised for its work improving access to healthcare for some of the most vulnerable and underserved people
Since launching in June, the team has completed more than 89 health assessments for people who may otherwise struggle to access healthcare, including home visits for individuals with significant mobility difficulties.
The nomination highlighted how the team has already helped people who had not seen a healthcare professional for years access vital support and treatment for their physical and mental health.
By taking healthcare directly to people who face barriers to accessing services, Health Squad is helping to address health inequalities and ensure more people receive the care and support they need.

Both winning teams demonstrate the compassion, teamwork and dedication shown by colleagues across our Trust every day.
Executive colleagues will visit both teams to congratulate them in person and present their Team of the Month certificates.
