From 23 June to 1 September 2025, essential works will be taking place near University Hospital of North Durham, with a northbound traffic closure in effect throughout the construction period.

As part of the planned works, a temporary bus diversion will be introduced to maintain access for patients, visitors and staff.

Temporary Bus Stop Location

During the works, bus services will be rerouted via A691 Southfield Way, and a temporary bus stop will be installed on the adopted road leading to the hospital parking area.

The new stop will be positioned between the Land Registry building and the first mini roundabout, where vehicles turn left to reach the hospital's main reception area.

This temporary location has been carefully chosen to offer the closest possible access to the Emergency Department entrance, helping to support patients and visitors with accessibility needs while the usual stop is out of service.

Current vs Temporary Bus Stop

  • Current Bus Stop Location: North Road, adjacent to the Aykley Heads roundabout (near the Emergency Department entrance).

  • Temporary Bus Stop Location: On the internal hospital access road, between the Land Registry and the mini roundabout near the main reception drive.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this period of disruption. These temporary measures have been put in place to ensure that patients and visitors can continue to travel to and from the hospital safely and conveniently.

Please allow extra time for your journey and check with your local bus operator for service updates.
